POLITICAL Career: In 2007, Alam founded the Missouri Democratic Party Asian American Caucus (MDPAAC), which now includes 11 county chapters. In 2009, he became the National Chairman of US National Democratic Party Asian American Caucus, and was the Chair of first National Convention of National Democratic Party Asian American Caucus in 2011.
He serves as the Democratic Party Committeeman of the 26 ward, having run unopposed in 2010. His term as committeeman expired in 2012.
Currently Alam serves as President of Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) Michigan Chapter. Alam also is the National Chair of Bangladeshi American Political Action Committee (BAPAC). In the 2016 Presidential election Alam served as the National Campaign Chair for “Muslim American for Bernie Sanders”. In 2016 Alam established the “Democrats For Inclusion” – a Democratic Grass-roots Movement which has over 35K members. In 2019 Alam ran for MDP Chair and now he is the Statutory Vice Chair for MDP CD14 also an Elected Delegate of Detroit’s Precinct 94.
